TORONTO, ONT. (April 2012) – Canadian DJ Chris Dubbs is the newest member of the Toronto
Revellers masquerade band and will be joining them for the 2012 carnival season as they present Bollywood: Lights, Camera, Action!
“I am looking forward to being a part of the Toronto Revellers team this year,” said Chris Dubbs. “Growing up in Toronto, I was always a part of the festivities surrounding [Caribana] weekend, but this year it will be great to participate with one of the top competing bands and experience all elements of the Scotiabank Toronto Caribbean Carnival from preparation to finish.”
As co-host of CIUT 89.5fm’s Morning Ride radio show for the past 8 years, Chris Dubbs is already well-connected to Toronto’s Caribbean community through their 18,000 weekly listeners, in addition to his online radio show Everyting Criss Mix Show (Wednesday’s from 8:00pm – 10:00pm on He also maintains a social media network of over 10,000 and has a regular weekend rotation of parties, concerts, and special events across the city, as well as internationally.
“This is Toronto! Carnival is a big part of everyone’s culture, even those who don’t have any family ties to the Caribbean,” said Chris Dubbs who is of Jamaican heritage, and primarily known as a reggae DJ. “Bringing my passion for reggae music together with soca music, and celebrating Bollywood through Indian pop music will showcase a true representation of the culture of our city. It will be a natural mix.”
Jamaal Magloire, captain of the Toronto Raptors NBA team and the Toronto Revellers bandleader is pleased to bring Chris Dubbs on board this year.
“The Toronto Revellers are known as The People’s Band, so we want to make sure that we reach out to all of the various cultural communities in the city,” said Magloire. “When we go down the road on carnival day, Saturday, August 4, we might sound like the culture of Trinidad, but we want our band to look like the face of Toronto. Chris will be a great addition to our band; we appreciate his musical versatility and the reggae community he is already strongly connected to.”
